ADELAIDE TASTING REPORT
|
|
Another highly
successful Adelaide tasting on Friday 29th August, held at
the Ikaros Hall at Unley for the 12th successive year.
Over 100 guests enjoyed the “afternoon session” between 12.30 and
4.30pm, some staying on till “stumps” at just after
7.30pm. In all nearly 400 guests attended over the day.
We thank again
the Painter family, (Ann, Ellen, Michelle & Thomas), and our other
helpers Denton, Ruth, Tom, Asimarkis, Slaven, Gerry, Rob, Helen and
Phil, for ensuring another well run tasting for our guests to enjoy.
The home made
soup and crusty bread went down extremely well with guests in the
afternoon and into the early evening.
Remember, if not
on our mailing list,(please ph 08 8 357 9533, fax 08 8 271 0726 or
email sales@koppamurra.com),
to get an invitation to next year’s big annual tasting, in late August
2009. For those already attending, and are able, try and get along in
the afternoon, when it is a bit more relaxed and less crowded.

NEW WINE RELEASE
|
|
Our
new cabernet release, the 2006
Cabernet Sauvignon Wrattonbully, is the first cabernet and second
wine, (following the 2005 Shiraz), from our new source vineyard at
Joanna (South East of South Australia).
The
wine was bottled in early March 2008 for release at our Melbourne
tasting on 2nd May. We
believe this wine will continue in the tradition of classic high
quality, elegant cabernets we have produced over many years.
Whilst
suitable for early drinking, it will develop
further with bottle age and patient cellaring for at least 5 years.

TASTINGS
|
|
March tasting in
Sydney, again at the fantastic Wharf Restaurant on the harbour and
Melbourne for the tenth year at the Observatory Café in the Botanic
Gardens in early May, were again highly successful. All the whites were
popular, with the 06 Eden Valley Riesling, with a little bottle age and
developing beautifully, proving to be the biggest seller. The two award
winning reds, the 02 Cabernet and 05 Shiraz were both very popular, with
new release, the 06 Cabernet causing a lot of interest.
ADELAIDE
TASTING—Friday 29th August from 12.30pm until 7.30
pm.
Again at the
Ikaros Hall,24 Arthur Street, Unley (adjacent to the rear of the Unley
Shopping Centre. Get there in the afternoon for our famous homemade
soup!!
CANBERRA
TASTING - Friday 14th November from 5.30pm until
7.30pm

NEW RELEASE
|
|
2006
Cabernet Sauvignon Wrattonbully
Our
latest release the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is from our new source
vineyard at Joanna in the South East of South Australia, where we also
sourced the 2005 Shiraz, awarded a GOLD in the national Winewise
Awards.
We
took some samples to the Sydney tasting in March (3 weeks after
bottling), and the wine was officially released at our Melbourne Tasting
on 2nd May. The wine was very well received and sold well at
both venues, although still a very young wine with significant bottle
development in the years to come. One for drinking in the next 12 months
and for the cellar.
$220
dozen/$115 half dozen/$19.50 bottle.

VINTAGE 2008
|
|
Well
the adage every vintage is different was certainly evident with this
year’s vintage.
After
drought and frosts wrecked much of the 2007 vintage throughout
Australia, which did remove some of the wine lake, but caused much pain
in many areas. In our case reds were of very high quality, but no
whites. In SA, 2008 saw a mild February, with vintage progressing
at a nice rate, but was followed by the hottest March on record, which
caused all sorts of problems for all, with everything ripening at once,
and picking in extreme heat. Early indications are the 08 Shiraz
and 08 Cabernet from Wrattonbully are of high quality and may even
exceed the 07 vintage in quality. We look forward to both the 07
and 08 reds developing into excellent wines.
The
whites have been a bit more problematic. Our long standing source
vineyard for Riesling in Eden Valley is unfortunately no more, so we are
looking to source a Riesling from the Adelaide Hills. We are also
looking to source a Sauvignon Blanc from the Adelaide Hills. More news
on the whites a month or two down the track.
